More about Todd Fortin

Hi Lee,

I hope this finds you well & in good spirits. I am in a dilemma over how & what to do regarding trying to get Todd out of a level V prison and the STG status they have put on him removed. It’s quite a story but in short it is all about retaliation for refusal to incriminate other inmates & grievances he wrote against prison officials (which of course made it as far as a garbage can).

He has stayed ticket free for well over a year and petitioned the STG officials there at Marquette Branch Prison requesting the STG status be removed. A Sgt. Mayotte responded stating he would not consider it not giving him any reasons as to why or what he needs to do to get it removed.

After this took place Todd was in chow hall along with the other inmates & he exchanged brief words (like a hello) with 1 of the inmates who was sitting at the table. After lunch that day this person was called down & put on STG status for sitting at the same table & speaking to Todd!!  To make matters worse this inmate was up for parole in a week or 2 but due to being put on STG status he was ineligible!!!!!

Now what do you think this inmate is going to do or how do you think he feels towards Todd now after losing his parole just because he sat at a table & exchanged words with him? It sounds as though their setting Todd up to get hurt awful bad!!!

When I spoke with a man there (who was taking the calls for his councilor) he told me that Todd needs to renounce his association with the gang and I told him Todd has always told them he is not a part of any gang! Todd said he has not corresponded with anyone with any type of affiliation or suspected affiliation to a gang in over a year.

Todd is finally on meds for paranoid schizophrenia but is severely depressed!!!! He starved himself for over a week because he just couldn't get out of bed and it’s not safe to leave your cell when you’re that vulnerable he said. He misses his family, hasn't seen his daughters since they were babies, and has had no human contact in at least 4 years!

According to what I've read in guidelines he never should have been sent to the hole back at Baraga 3 or 4 yrs ago because of his mental illness but the doctors at Baraga refused to agree with his diagnosis and submitted fraudulent documentations as to their evaluating him. Oh this is such a mess!!!! They know it to & they know he doesn't have the money to fight them!

Anyway to get to my question: I need to contact the STG Coordinator at Marquette and in Lansing but I'm not sure how to approach this, what to say, and how to argue (if needed) their excuses, reasons etc.

Can you PLEASE HELP ME?

Very Appreciatively,

Cynthia Baalerud
